Russell's Biography
Hi, I’m Russell Nelson and I have been teaching guitar to students of all ages since 1990. I provide all levels of tuition from beginner to professional, for ages from 6 to 106. No one is too young or too old to learn an instrument.
I am a graduate of the Australian Institute of Music and have studied with Jazz legends such as Dave Smith and Ike Isaacs. I've also studied with Guy Le Claire, Deiter Kleimen, Jeremy Sawkins and Carl Orr.
Prior to my studies my background and musical passion was predominantly rock but I now have a much broader musical knowledge and teach all styles including rock, jazz, classical and everything in between.
I have been working professionally in the music industry for 31 years. My first job at the age of 17 (back in 1979) was doing lighting for a band called The Chase Band in Melbourne. Since then I have travelled extensively with Australia's and the world's top musicians in the capacity of both musician and technician.
Having kids means having to stay put. I perform every Friday and Saturday night in the pubs and clubs around Sydney with my covers band called Trilogy (see link below) and solo shows. During the week I happily devote my time to passing on my knowledge and experience to those wanting to learn.
